Return to I-Con!

Besides the varied programming it included a huge dealer's room and had a great atmosphere of fun which might account for its high turnout of attendance.

It also proved to be an ideal recruiting opportunity. Thanks to Wayne we had a free Starfleet table and our spot in the middle of the action near the entrance to the dealer's room assured that a lot of traffic would have to stop by our table.

I recommended to R7 Command that next year we hold an SFI meeting there and once again conduct recruitment table operations. We do this at Farpoint and Shore Leave in Maryland each year and I think the Region should expand its scope to include a con in New York and given the large number of people who attended the con, it seems a perfect venue.

My only regret…not having come back sooner. The last time I was at I-Con was when I was on the USS Constitution which would have made it more than 20 years ago.

On the club business end of things, R7 Recruitment made contact with the folks at Big Apple Con and arranged to follow up on table arrangements. And thanks to my XO Capt. Jeff Victor, we also got a "jump" on Jumpcon, which is a new con coming to Somerset, NJ in August (first weekend) and has some pretty decent guests.

We purchased a table for a very cheap price based in part of availability and a price that would not be available later on. Between all the recruiting we did, flyers we handed out and the work done with two other cons, I'd say it made for a very successful recruitment operation to say nothing of the actual recruits we hoped to have gotten for SFI and Britannic in general.

We saw some visitors from the USS Malverne and USS Niagara plus a former member of the ISS Lexington who said she planned to rejoin Starfleet and a chapter in her new home state of New York.

Wayne and his crew held a great "Ice Breaker" party afterward with some delicious sub sandwiches, drinks and snacks.

Alas, my crew could only come in for one day as we had an appointment to do our individual taxes the next day which also proved successful…but that is a story for another time.
